Rupert White's thoughtful article in Law Society Gazette will hopefully spur more lawyers to get into blogging. Thus far there are very few law blogs out there.
The article has attracted some interest with both Geek Lawyer and Infolaw making comment particularly with respect to the marketing angle of blogging.
As I said to Rupert, blogging is now my primary marketing tool. Nevertheless there is a strict proviso which some of my fellow bloggers refer to namely you cannot use blogging as a cynical marketing tool. Effectively the potential benefits (namely increased business/profile etc) are a by product of the quality of the content and the format of the blog.
Generally there are 2 things which strike me about the current UK law blogs.
First, the majority of the them have an Intellectual Property bias. This is probably because IP people have an interest in technology. But where are the divorce law blogs? Or how about some blogs on civil litigation? It would really enhance the quality of the blogs if we could have some which covered other legal disciplines.
Second, there is a lot of generosity to other bloggers. Law bloggers frequently refer to other bloggers content and are genuinely trying to help each other. I have been blogging since October but I have had a lot of support from many of the law bloggers. Long may this trend continue.
