I have just returned from a coffee with Dan Hull of What About Clients? at the Marriott hotel in Park Lane, London. You will hear more of Dan later on Charon QC's blog when he will be interviewed for Charon's podcasts.
Dan is an American litigator and lobbyist and has ties to the Washington, D.C. legal and government communities, and equally close ties to lawyers in Western Europe and Latin America.
In recent years, his firm has also helped well-established writers and authors turn their fiction and non-fiction works into feature films by production companies and studios in California and New York.
Having met Dan there are some striking aspects to him:
1 Unusual for an American, very internationalist in approach. He is very well travelled and has an open outlook.
2 Very American in that he is positive and is commercially driven.
3 Generous in approach to people. From my perspective he listened very carefully to what I had to say.
4 Said against that, the approach to work which is exceptionally client driven. I have never met someone(let alone a lawyer) use such client focused language such as the fact that if client calls you to chase you up on something, you(the lawyer) have failed. Quite inspirational.
